Oncology massage is a blend of massage and holistic approaches to provide support and improve wellbeing and quality of life. It is suitable for people with a cancer diagnosis; in remission; under palliative care; or through to survivorship.
There is a myth that massage or exercise may spread cancer. This is not true - see links below. Massage or exercise does not spread cancer, but can help reduce side effects of the disease and treatment.
There are many symptoms which come with cancer treatments and require modifications to the massage. These massage adaptations are absolutely necessary and the following are taken into account:
Low blood cell count
Bone metastases
Blood clots
Radiation or surgery
Nausea
Fatigue
Bone pain
Removal of lymph nodes
Medication
Medical devices (drains, venous access devices, shunts, collection bags)
Effects of treatments
Oncology massage is different from other forms of massage. It is catered to your individual needs, helping to reduce the side effects of cancer treatments. Touch therapy is a lighter pressure, which allows the therapists’ hands to slowly sink and melt into the soft tissue without placing further stress on the body.
Appointment duration may vary according to individual
